ISLAMABAD – June 19, 2025: Pakistan has strongly condemned Israel’s recent military strikes on Iran, urging the United Nations and global community to take immediate action to uphold international law and ensure accountability.
Addressing a weekly press briefing, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan described the Israeli attacks as a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stating they “clearly contravene the United Nations (UN) Charter and fundamental principles of international law.”
“Iran has the right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter,” Khan stated. “Pakistan stands in resolute solidarity with the people of Iran and unequivocally denounces these blatant provocations, which constitute a grave danger and a serious threat to the peace, security, and stability of the entire region and beyond, with serious implications.”
The Foreign Office said that Pakistan views the Israeli actions as unjustified and illegitimate, and reiterated its call for world leaders and the UN to bear their responsibility to stop the aggression and hold Israel accountable.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has spoken with his counterparts from Iran, Turkiye, Egypt, the UAE, and the United Kingdom. According to the FO, the discussions focused on the worsening regional crisis, with all leaders expressing concern over the ongoing escalation and agreeing on the need to work together for de-escalation and regional peace.
The spokesperson also highlighted that 21 Muslim-majority countries — including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, Turkiye, Qatar, and others — have jointly rejected and condemned Israel’s actions, calling them a violation of international law and the UN Charter.
These nations also underscored the urgent need to halt hostilities, protect nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards, and push for a Middle East free from nuclear and major weapons of mass destruction. They further emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue and maintain maritime security in international waters.
In addition to addressing the Israel-Iran situation, the FO spokesperson condemned recent curbs in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that authorities in Srinagar did not allow congregational Eid prayers at key locations and placed Kashmiri leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest.
“This oppressive measure clearly is another example of the high-handed approach of the Indian authorities, and a violation of the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people, including rights to freely practice their religion and peaceful assembly,” Khan said.
Pakistan urged India to respect the rights of Kashmiris and grant them their right to self-determination in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
