Musiala stars in Bayern Munich’s 10-0 Club World Cup Win

Top News

CINCINNATI, June 15 – Bayern Munich launched their FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a resounding 10-0 victory over Auckland City, setting a new tournament record for the largest margin of victory in the competition’s history.

Jamal Musiala, returning from injury, led the charge with a second-half hat-trick as the German champions overwhelmed the Oceania representatives at TQL Stadium.

Early dominance from the Bundesliga giants

Bayern made their intent clear early on when Kingsley Coman headed in a Joshua Kimmich corner in the sixth minute. Just over ten minutes later, Sacha Boey doubled the lead with a precise low shot — his first goal for the club.

A flurry of goals followed in quick succession. Michael Olise tapped in Bayern’s third, Coman added his second, and Thomas Müller volleyed in the fifth before Olise curled in a stunning effort from outside the box to make it 6-0 at halftime.

Youth debut and Musiala magic

With the result beyond doubt, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany introduced 17-year-old midfielder Lennart Karl for his senior debut in the second half.

“I wanted to give Karl his opportunity, he showed lots of quality, it was great for him and great for Bayern,” Kompany said. “We have a strong basis from last season and we can still give young players an opportunity to succeed, he may play an important role in the next rounds.”

Musiala, who replaced Harry Kane just after the hour mark, wasted little time making an impact. He curled in Bayern’s seventh with a signature finish, converted a penalty he earned minutes later, and capitalized on a defensive lapse to complete his hat-trick in the 84th minute.

Müller completed the scoring with his second of the match just before full time, sealing Bayern’s 10-0 triumph.

Auckland proud despite the gap

Facing one of the world’s most valuable squads, Auckland City — comprised mostly of semi-professional players — struggled to match Bayern’s pace and quality.

Despite the result, Auckland head coach Ivan Vicelich remained proud of his squad’s efforts.

“To be proud of the players is what we’re after. It’s a dream coming from an amateur level to play in this environment,” said Vicelich. “You can’t hide on the field. [I’m] really proud, a lot of players put in a good amount and worked really hard.”

Focus shifts to Boca Juniors clash

Looking ahead, Bayern will face Argentine heavyweights Boca Juniors in their next Group C match. Auckland will meet Benfica on the same day.

“The next game against Boca Juniors will be the highlight of the group stage,” Kompany said. “A traditional club from Europe against a traditional club from South America. Even if I weren’t Bayern coach, I’d have attended this game. It will be special.”

Bayern’s emphatic win puts them in pole position in their group, and sends a clear message to their rivals in this year’s expanded Club World Cup.
