KARACHI – After enduring several days of sweltering temperatures, Karachi is likely to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms on Monday, according to a forecast by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
A westerly weather system and moist air currents are influencing weather patterns in the region, bringing the possibility of rainfall and dust storms. “Dust-thunderstorm /rain likely in Karachi division on tomorrow & isolated places at outskirts of Karachi division on Tuesday,” the PMD advisory stated.
Temperatures in Karachi are expected to hover between 36°C and 38°C, with humidity reaching 70–80% in the morning. Cloudy conditions are likely to dominate the city’s skies through Monday.
The PMD also noted that “partly cloudy weather with dust or thunderstorm is forecast at isolated places in Mithi, Umerkot, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Sukkur, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Karachi and their surrounding areas.”
Officials added that areas on the outskirts of Karachi may receive light rain with thunderstorms, possibly lasting one to two days. Today, however, the city remains under intense heat, with temperatures expected to peak at 49°C and sea breezes remaining suspended. “Humidity levels have reached 78 percent,” the Meteorological Department said, warning of heightened discomfort due to the “feels-like” temperature.
Under the same system, parts of Punjab, northeast Balochistan, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may also experience dust storms and scattered rain. Hailstorms are possible in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
Historically, heavy rain in Karachi has resulted in widespread disruption. Last August, the city administration declared a state of emergency after a five-day downpour caused urban flooding, damaged roads, and crippled daily life.
Weather experts believe the upcoming rainfall could provide temporary relief from the heatwave and help reduce heat-related health risks.
