Iran Strikes US Base in Qatar, Missiles Intercepted

Top News

Doha, Qatar — June 24, 2025 — Iran launched a missile attack on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East, in retaliation for American airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The strike marks a significant escalation in the regional conflict.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the operation, codenamed “Annunciation of Victory”, targeting U.S. forces at the airbase just outside Doha. Flares lit up the sky over the Qatari capital late Monday, and loud explosions were reported.

According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, the missiles were part of a broader retaliatory strategy following the U.S. bombing of key nuclear sites in Iran, including the underground Fordow facility.

A U.S. defense official told Reuters that the attack involved both short-range and medium-range ballistic missiles, but “there are no reports of US casualties.” The missiles were intercepted before impact, according to Qatar’s Ministry of Defence, which praised “the vigilance of the armed forces and precautionary measures taken.”

President Donald Trump responded on Truth Social, saying, “I am pleased to report that NO Americans were harmed, and hardly any damage was done… I want to thank Iran for giving us early notice, which made it possible for no lives to be lost, and nobody to be injured.”

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei commented on the platform X:
“We have not violated anyone’s rights, and we will not under any circumstances accept any violation against us, nor will we surrender to anyone’s aggression; this is the logic of the Iranian nation.”

Iran had reportedly given early warning to the U.S. and Qatari authorities through diplomatic channels. A regional source told Reuters that Qatar temporarily closed its airspace following the notification. Bahrain followed suit, suspending its own airspace as a precaution.

In a statement, Qatar’s government condemned the missile strike as a violation of its sovereignty but reaffirmed strong bilateral relations with Iran. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council emphasized that the strike was aimed at military infrastructure, away from civilian areas.
“This action does not pose any threat to the friendly and brotherly country, Qatar, and its noble people,” the council said.

The strike came hours after Israel reportedly bombed a political prison in Tehran, intensifying tensions in the region. Meanwhile, U.S. military bases in Iraq and Syria were placed on high alert, anticipating possible further attacks by Iranian forces or allied militias.

Despite fears that the attack might threaten oil shipping routes, global oil prices dropped 4%, signaling market skepticism about further escalation disrupting supply lines.

Iran’s latest action demonstrates a firm stance amid growing regional hostilities. As both Washington and Tehran weigh their next moves, the Gulf remains on edge.
