RIYADH – Cristiano Ronaldo could be staying in Saudi Arabia for longer than expected as Al-Nassr prepares a record-breaking offer to extend his stay, despite growing rumors about a possible summer departure.
Reports from the Spanish outlet Marca reveal that Al-Nassr is offering the Portuguese forward a staggering €15.2 million per month, translating to around €3.8 million per week and over €182 million annually. In addition, the proposed contract includes a 5% ownership stake in the club.
Though the extension is reportedly just for one more year, the offer would make Ronaldo one of the highest-paid athletes globally.
Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr in December 2022 on a two-year deal worth €200 million per season, remains the Saudi Pro League’s top scorer with 24 goals this season. Since his debut with the club in January 2023, he has amassed 98 goals and 19 assists in 110 appearances.
He helped Al-Nassr secure the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup, marking his first trophy with the club and further solidifying his impact since arriving in Saudi Arabia.
Amid the uncertainty, rumors emerged that Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca might attempt to sign Ronaldo for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Marca reported that Wydad hoped to bring in Ronaldo for both sporting and marketing benefits.
However, a source close to the Moroccan club clarified the situation to Reuters:
“It was just a friendly talk between Wydad’s president and an agent close to Ronaldo, without going beyond informal discussions.”
Wydad, winners of the 2021–22 CAF Champions League, are scheduled to face Manchester City, Juventus, and Al-Ain in Group G of the tournament, which kicks off on July 14 in the United States.
While Ronaldo’s contract expires on June 30, the clock is ticking for a decision on his future. Should he choose not to renew with Al-Nassr, clubs worldwide could attempt to lure the 40-year-old icon, who has scored 34 goals in 40 matches this season alone.
Whether he extends his historic journey in Saudi Arabia or opts for one final adventure elsewhere, Ronaldo’s next move is sure to dominate headlines.
